Biography

Agata Kot-Wasik, born in 1964 in Siedlce, graduated in 1988 from the Faculty of Chemistry, Gdańsk University of Technology in Industrial and Technical Analysis. In 1988-1992 she was employed in the Department of Organic Chemistry. In 1990, she completed postgraduate studies "Instrumental techniques in the traces analysis and Environmental Protection" at GUT, and in 1992 began PhD Studies at the Faculty of Chemistry, GUT, which then continued at the University of Gent, Belgium. She got her PhD at the University of Gent in 1995. From 1996 up to now  she has been employed at the Department of Analytical Chemistry in Professor Jacek Namieśnik’s team, working as an academic teacher, initially as an assistant (1995-1996), then Assistant Professor (1996-2009), Assistant Professor with habilitation (2009-2012) and currently she is a full Professor. Agata Kot-Wasik got the DSc degree (habilitation) in 2009 and the title of Professor of Chemistry in 2014.

In 2012-2016 was a Vice-Dean for Education, and from  2016-2020 is the Vive-Dean for Science.
In 2004-2006, she was a member of the Committee of the Sea Exploration of the Polish Academy of Science, in 2007-2012 - a member of the Organic Chemistry Committee of Polish Academy of Science. Starting from 2012 AKW has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Oceanology PAN.

The scientific activity of Agata Kot-Wasik is focused on the exploration and development of novel analytical methods. The main point of interest are the modern analytical techniques, with special emphasis on hyphenated techniques, among them the foreground is a modern, ultra-fast high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, tandem mass spectrometry and high resolution mass spectrometry. At the same time gaining the experience in the sample preparation techniques applied for liquid and solids. An important aspect of the research is focused on the reaction kinetics of pollutant degradation in the aquatic environment and identification of the degradation products of organic environmental pollutants with particular emphasis on pharmaceuticals residues. Recently, the research has been focused on lipidomic and metabolomic analysis.
Publication record of Agata Kot-Wasik covers more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, 6 book chapters and 5 academic books.
Reviewer of PhD theses (8), habilitation procedures (5) and several national grant applications. Leader of 3 KBN grants. Publications of A. Kot-Wasik received more than 1,500 independent citations, The Hirsch index (according to Web of Science, 2016) is 21.

Professor A. Kot-Wasik has been a supervisor of 4 young scientists who got their PhD and is currently a supervisor of further 3 PhD students. In addition, she has been a supervisor of over 175 graduates  She has also supervised several foreign students (two from Portugal in 2006, one from Spain in 2008 and from  Spain and Ethiopia in 2012/2013.)

Dr. A. Kot-Wasik did In 1995 a  half-year internship at the University of San Sebastian in Spain financed by the Basque Government, and in 1999 a similar internship at the University of Pau in France.

Professor Kot-Wasik received in 1995 award from the Gdańsk Scientific Society and from the Royal Academy of Sciences in Brussels, Belgium. She was also awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit (2007) and the Medal of the National Education Commission (2004) and received . She received several individual and team awards from the GUT Rector.
Married (husband Andrew), two children (Matthew and Thomas). Hobbies - music (playing the piano), gardening.
