API 5L X65 steel - fracture documentation of CMOD-force test in -10°C, across rolling direction

Description

Steel designated as API 5L X65 is often used for oil and gas transportation pipelines. It is caused due to its high ductility, weldability and good corrosion resistance. API 5L X65 is a low alloy steel with carbon content less than 0.3% (depends on delivery condition). Once installed, a pipeline remains in place for many years. Throughout its life, the pipeline must be reliable. Loss of structural integrity can result in environmental disaster and high economic costs.  For these reasons, the material undergoes very detailed quality control. As part of this, the required mechanical properties are checked.

Steel plates made of API 5L X65 steel, 19 mm thick, were tested. The research included tensile test and CTOD (Crack Tip Opening Displacement) test. The mechanical properties of the test material were checked along and across the rolling direction. Subsequently named as XY and YX directions. For tensile test, two operating temperatures were considered - room temperature +20°C and reduced to -10°C. It is well known that fracture toughness decreases with temperature decrease. It is the reason why CTOD test was carried out only in temperature -10°C – the worst case for planned steel application.

Presented dataset contains fracture documentation of speciemens tested across rolling direction
