Description
The urban-rural divide is an important factor known to affect public opinion on issues related to environmental protection and management. The present data set allows for a deeper understanding of this issue with respect to policies dealing with tree removal on private property in two municipalities located in southern Poland: Racibórz (an urban municipality) and the rural part of Nysa (an urban-rural municipality).
This research was carried out in late spring and summer 2019 using a geo-questionnaire (GQ) – an internet based survey combined with an interactive web-map. In this study, spatial information concerned respondent's place of residence, the location of existing trees providing important Ecosystem Services (ES) to them, and suggested places in which new trees should be planted. The survey also contained questions related to the respondents’ personal characteristics, their opinion concerning regulations affecting tree removal on private property, their attachment to the location they live, and questions related to their ecological beliefs. We informed respondents about the research by unaddressed invitations sent by mail and as well as through local press and on social media (Facebook). Some responses were also obtained from field research. Data are presented in aggregate form in hexagonal units with an area of approx. 34,6 m2.
