Description
The low-coherence refractive index measurements of certified liquid samples provided by Cargille Labs were performed. The measurement system consisted of a broadband light source (central wavelength of 1550 nm), an optical spectrum analyzer, a 2x1 fiber-optic coupler (50:50 power split), and single-mode telecommunication optical fibers. A micromechanical setup served for positioning and stabilizing the measurement head. The measurement head was constructed as a Fabry-Perot cavity formed between the polished fiber end-face and a surface of a silver mirror. The sensor was operating in a reflecting mode. The cavity length was set to 280 µm; the measurements of refractive index were performed in the range of 1.3 – 1.5 with an increment equal to 0.01. Two series of 10 spectra measurements for each liquid were carried out. A reference signal with a cavity filled with air was recorded to confirm its intact setting after cleaning and changing the liquid inside the cavity.
The Folder name indicates the nominal refractive index of the measured liquid sample.
The Files named W0000-W0010 in each folder are subsequently recorded spectra for the given sample.
REF files are reference measurements taken for air filling the cavity of the same length.
The liquids are in the refractive index range of 1.3-1.5 with an increment of 0.01.
The cavity length was set to 280 um.
The measurement set-up.
