Study of the mechanism of macroplastic litter transport in a stream with vegetation

The aim of the project is to research the transport of macroplastics in rivers, taking into account the impact of riparian vegetation. the project includes three interrelated tasks: (1) Recognition of the phenomenon on a real example of a stream with vegetation; (2) Conducting experimental research on a laboratory scale; (3) Construction of a mathematical model of pollutant transport along with performing numerical simulations The issue of pollutant transport in rivers is not new and has been the subject of research for years. However, the movement of plastic in rivers, in particular its accumulation on the banks or the formation of blockages, is still little known. Nowadays this is even more important because we are constantly observing an increase in this type of litter in surface waters, and garbage jams clogging the culverts or other hydro-engineering structures, may actually increase the risk of flooding.
