National Competence Centres in the framework of EuroHPC

Continuation of the project EuroCC. EuroHPC is a joint venture of European countries and the European Commission (EuroHPC JU) to build an exascale computing infrastructure in Europe. EuroHPC groups the activities of HPC (High Performance Computers) into two pillars. Pillar I is dedicated to the acquisition of three pre-exascale and five petascale supercomputers for researchers and industry by 2020. Pillar II is an extensive research and innovation plan aimed at adjusting research and development problems. software for the capabilities of computing machines planned to be acquired in Pillar I. One of the activities of Pillar 2 is the construction of national EuroHPC competence centers. The installation of exascale supercomputers is planned for the years 2023-2025. The aim of the project is to build national centers HPC competencies. These centers are a natural extension of the Digital Innovation Hubs. Their main task will be to support scientific research in industry with the participation of researchers from the academic community and the use of computing resources provided by EuroHPC supercomputers. A key aspect of supporting the industry will also be the transfer of knowledge in the use of supercomputer resources, searching and matching partners in the field of joint research in industry and science, scaling research problems and software to the exascale requirements, as well as training and development technical skills in the field of large-scale calculations. The project promotes the use of supercomputing infrastructure by administration units, universities and business. Thanks to its implementation, GUT will be able to obtain further grants and funding related to cooperation with other centers.
