A system for precise monitoring of the impact of railway traffic on the environment, taking into account information on operational, technical and environmental data
The project concerns the problem of noise and vibrations in the close vicinity of the railway infrastructure. The key of the problem is the assessment of this phenomenon in relation to several technical, movement and environmental factors. The goal is to develop a system of monitoring, integrating and processing the collected data in order to manage the maintenance and investments of the railway infrastructure manager. The proposed system will constitute a comprehensive tool for the measurement and analysis of noise and vibrations, and then will support the above mentioned decision making processes. The final effect will consist of a measurement technology verified by a prototype of measuring equipment and an IT system as well as a methodology for measurement planning. The system will classify and assess the noise and vibration levels following the formal conditions applicable to the infrastructure manager`s regulation. The authors propose to use the Area Sensor Network (`OSS` in Polish) concept. This term is as a mobile measurement system consisting of a set of appropriate sensors located in space and connected to the measurement system controller. OSS will be characterized by a high degree of flexibility in terms of location and topology of the sensor network’s structure in various field conditions. The measured information will be analyzed in the domain of time and space and will be integrated with the numerical model of the area of the sensors’ location. It is an innovative approach compared to conventional (stationary) techniques for measuring noise and vibrations. The measurement will cover typical for railways locations taking into account several factors affecting the level of the measured parameters. Spatial information will be reported directly to the IT system. Proprietary algorithms will be implemented based on efficient numerical methods. The IT system will provide the automatic decision support in managing the information from contained measurements.
