Abstract
Sports, hunting and military shooting grounds are well known sources of noise that can be disruptive both for people present at those facilities, as well as for people and animals that live nearby. What is more, shooters are also subjected to very painful and dangerous impulse noise. The paper discusses the issues related to the noise immission during firing of small firearms of military type that are typical for Poland. The experiments reported in the paper include measurements of impulse noise while firing weapons of different types like: rifles of caliber 5.56x45, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, .338 Lapua Magnum, .408 Chey Tac and .50 BMG, shotgun cal. 12, pistols/revolvers cal. .38Spec, .357 Mag., 9x19, .380 ACP, 9 mm Makarov and .25. Some of the tested rifles are equipped with muzzle brakes that increase noise emission directed sideway.
