Abstract
In this paper, a novel structure of a compact UWB slot antenna is presented along with a simulation-driven design optimization algorithm for adjusting geometry parameters of the device. Our primary objective is to obtain small footprint of the structure while maintaining its acceptable electrical performance. It is achieved by introducing sufficiently large number of geometry degrees of freedom, including increased number of parameterized slot sections (so that they can be shifted with respect to each other), as well as modification of the feed line. All antenna dimensions are simultaneously adjusted using an automated EM-driven optimization algorithm. For the sake of computational efficiency, variable-fidelity EM simulation are used throughout the the design process. The footprint of the optimized structure is just 8.5 mm × 17.6 mm (150 mm2). At the same time, the antenna reflection is below −10 dB in the entire UWB frequency range.
