Abstract
A city fragmentation causes a lot of negative effects in urban environment such as: disconnecting the environmental, functional and compositional relations, a loss of urban compactness, chaotic development, visual chaos, a domination of technical landscape, reduction of security. This is why one of main challenges for urban planners is to connect the fragmented structures by creating friendly, attractive and safe public space. The aim of a paper is to examine the causes and negative effects of city fragmentation and to introduce the possibilities of using Green and Blue Infrastructure when creating public spaces connecting fragmented urban tissue. Properly design public spaces can solve a problem of divided existing urban structures and to overcome spatial, functional and visual barriers.
