Graduated from the mathematical class at the Nicolaus Copernicus High School in Gdańsk (1974). Master of Sciences in Civil Engineering after studies at Gdansk University of Technology (GUT), Poland (1974-1979). Since 1979 became an employee of the GUT. In 1989 earned a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (with grade "Summa cum Laude") from the GUT. In 2008 obtained a D. Sc. (Habilitation) degree in Civil Engineering (with grade "Summa cum Laude") from the GUT. Since 2011 employed as a professor of the GUT. 

Authored or co-authored over 120 scientific publications. Major research interests include: Computational Structural Analysis, Non-linear analysis of plates and shells, Heat transfer analysis with phase-change problems, Continuum Damage Mechanics, Vehicle Crash-test Computer Simulation, Thin-walled Structures, and Multi-layered composite structures.

Got some experience while working (over 3 years in total) as a visiting scientist at some foreign universities: Concordia University in Montreal, Canada; University of Windsor, Canada; Wuppertal University, Germany; Florida State University in Tallahassee, USA; RWTH Aachen, Germany. A member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal Acta Mechanica (Springer), Associate Editor for Computer Modeling in Engineering and Sciences ( Tech Science Press).

Former dean (2008-2016) and vice-dean for education (2004-2008) of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, GUT, Poland. A former member of the University Senate of GUT (2008-2016). A former member of Scientific Board of Institute of Hydro-engineering of Polish Academy of Sciences (IBW PAN) (2011-2018).

He was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit (1999), the Medal of the National Education Commission (2003), the Award for achievements in research studies granted by the Gdansk Scientific Society (1989), the Award for scientific achievements granted by the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure (2008), and several Awards of the GUT Rector.
