Biography

Janusz Nieznański born in 1957 in Gdańsk. He received the M.Sc. degree in 1981, the Ph.D. degree in 1990, and the D.Sc. (‘habilitation’) degree in 1999, all from the Gdańsk University of Technology. Since 1981 he has been with the above university, where he is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering. His research and teaching interests include control, diagnostics, modeling and simulation of power electronic converters and electrical drives, digital signal processing for power electronic applications, and digital frequency synthesis. He authored and co-authored 120 scientific and technical papers, including in the following journals: IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Power Electronics Letters, IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, IEE Proceedings, Electronics Letters, International Journal of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. He was a supervisor of 5 completed PhD projects.

He was the project leader in the following projects (with total funding of more than 51 mln pln): a European Regional Development Fund project LINTE^2 (2010-2015), 3 projects funded in the 5th and 6th Framework Programmes of the EU and 5 national projects. He was aVisiting Professor at the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (2001) and Ecole Centrale de Lille (2005 and 2006) and a seconded researcher at the manufacturing and R&D center of Alstom Transport SA at Semeac, France (2006 and 2007). He is a Senior Member and volunteer of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

He held a number of managerial positions at the Faculty and University, including Vice Dean for Development (2002 – 2005), Vice Dean for Research (2005 – 2008), Head of the Department of Power Electronics and Electrical Machines (2008 – 2015) and Head of the LINTE^2 Laboratory (since 2016).
