Biography

Jaroslaw Tegowski was born in Olsztyn, Poland, in 1955. He received the M.S. degree in physics from the University of Gdansk, Gdansk, Poland, in 1981, and the Ph.D. degree in physical oceanography in 1995 and the habilitation degree from the Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Sopot, Poland, in 2007. From 1983 to 2008, he was a Research Assistant and a next Associate Professor at the Marine Acoustical Laboratory, Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences. From 1998 to 1999, he worked as a Researcher at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego, San Diego, CA, USA. Since 2008, he has been a Professor at the Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdansk, and since 2019, a Head of the Department of Geophysics at this Institute. He spent cumulatively three years at numerous marine scientific expeditions making acoustical, optical, and oceanographical measurements (e.g., Polar Regions—Svalbard Archipelago, Southern Atlantic Ocean, Baltic Sea, Siberia rivers). He has authored numerous publications in acoustical oceanography, environmental acoustics, marine optics and sea surface dynamics. His research focuses on the physical understanding of acoustic remote sensing and its uses in underwater environments. Dr. Tegowski has been involved in many international scientific organizations as SCOR, HELCOM, or ICES. He is an Editor of the journal Remote Sensing.
