Biography
I am an architect by education (M.Sc. Arch 1994) and practice (1994-2011), a Town Planner by practice (1999-2017, Ministerial Entitlements 1655/2002), and a Researcher (Ph.D.2012, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Glasgow School of Art 2013 - 2015, also teaching on Gdansk University of Technology since 2014). I have been the Principal Investigator of Era Net Urban Transformation Capacities EmbedterLabs: Better Embedded Labs for More Synergistic Sustainable Urban Transformation Planning since March 2022 and PI of SUGI FWE Nexus CRUNCH Climate Resilient Urban Nexus Choices: Operationalising the Food-Water-Energy Nexus within the SUGI JPI Urban Europe framework. The dual view on city issues from both practice (city planner and architect) and research (academia) perspectives and taking part as a city representative in European projects (focused on issues such as resilience, smart cities, or adaptation to climate change) led to the foundation of a unit named Urban Initiative Laboratory in 2015.
The research focuses primarily on urban transformation tools, transition and the Smart City issues. The projects have been wide-ranging from comparative planning (Gdansk Dublin 2010, Next Japan 2010), smart city and integrated planning (PhD thesis 2012, Gdansk Glasgow 2014/2015); Food Water Energy Nexus (SUGI JPI CRUNCH 2018-2021; COST NexusNet since 2021); urban transformation capacity (ENUTC EmbedterLabs since 2022) and the contextual and processual capacity to creativity. The last book on the theoretical model of Creativity Action’s Probability complements the contextual approach to creativity by analysing the decision-making process in the urban environment.
