Biography

Professor Józef Woźniak received his M.Sc., Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees in electronics and telecommunications from the Faculty of Electronics, Gdańsk University of Technology (GUT), Poland, in 1971, 1976 and 1991, respectively. In January 2002 he became a full professor.

In 1993 he was elected Associate Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and in 1994 he was he was appointed a Professor at GUT. Simultaneously, from October 1994 till September 1996 he was a Professor at the Franco-Polish School of New Information and Communication Technologies in Poznań (in September 1996 this university finished its operation). In 1996 he was elected, and in 1999 reelected, a Dean of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics at GUT. Since 2004 till 2008 he was a member of the Council for Science, by the Ministry of Science and High Education, taking part in activities of the Committee on Research for the Development of Science. He is also a member of the Committee of Electronics and Telecommunications of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), chairing the Telecommunications Section. He is also, since 2011 the member of the Central Commission for Scientific Degrees and Titles. Prof. Wozniak is a senior member of IEEE (organizing and chairing Gdańsk IEEE Computer Society Chapter in years 2000-2006) and a member of IFIP TC6 (currently being a chair of the Working Group WG6.8 TC6 - on Wireless and Mobile Communications).

Prof. J. Woźniak has a rich industrial and scientific experience. In February 1984 he participated in research works at the Vrije Universiteit, Brussel. From December 1986 to March 1987 he was a Visiting Scientists at the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Politecnico di Milano. In both cases he was working on modelling and performance analysis of packet radio networks. In 1988/89 he was a Visiting Professor at the Aalborg University Center, lecturing on computer networks and communication protocols. In 2006 he conducted (as a Visiting Erskine Fellow) lectures at the Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand. He participated as a leader or principal investigator in several domestic and international projects, cooperating with Intel and Alcatel, supervising projects on protocols and network architectures for both IPv6 and Future Internet.

Prof. Józef Woźniak is author or co-author of more than 350 scientific papers and co-author of four books, e.g., "LAN, MAN, WAN - computer networks and communication protocols" (printed in Polish in 1998) awarded the Ministry of National Education Prize (2nd ed. in 2000) and "Wired and Wireless LANs", issued in 2002 (also awarded the Ministry of National Education Prize in 2003) . He is also co-editor of 6 conference proceedings and co-author of 4 student textbooks and great number of unpublished scientific reports.

He promoted 13 PhDs and about 200 masters (M.Sc) and engineers (B.Sc).

His scientific and research interests include network architectures, analysis of communication systems, network security problems, mobility management in IP networks as well as LAN and MAN operational schemes.
