Biography

Karolina A. Krośnicka, Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. Arch., is associated professor at Department of Urban Design and Regional Planning, Faculty of Architecture, Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland).  For many years (1998 – 2016) she was employed at the Department of Transport and Logistics at the Faculty of Navigation at Gdynia Maritime University (Gdynia, Poland), where she was mostly involved in issues connected with seaports and port terminals planning. 
Currently, her research interests concentrate on the theory of urban dynamics, especially at the port-city interface, planning and operating of seaports terminals, Maritime Sea Planning and Integrated Coastal Zone Management. Her last book is devoted to rapid changes in container ports’ technologies and their spatial consequences for the city and region.
    The second field of Krośnicka’s research interests is planning for resilient cities and searching for creative tools allowing urbanized areas to adapt to natural conditions and reduce amount of resources used  by implementing circular economy concept. She is mostly working in the scale of the districts in the context of their self-sufficiency, resilience, blue-green infrastructure, densification scenarios and landscape transformation.  Krośnicka was recently involved in projects connected with this subject:
-    TELOS (Towards a European Landscape Economy for a Sustainable Urban Development) , Erasmus +, as team co-ordinator (2021-2024)
-    SUP&R – Solar Urban Performance & Energy Transformation, as co-investigator (Gdańsk Tech grant - 2023-2024).
Krośnicka is also deeply involved in education by lecturing for students, popularizing knowledge on shaping cities in primary schools, among others under the POWER program, and by writting papers on didactic.
