Description
The biocompatibility of the diamond films were investigated with whole human blood samples. Blood used in this study was drawn from 10 healthy human patients of different age, sex, and blood group. A 2 ml samples were collected into standard tubes with EDTA anticoagulation agent. Blood was used within 6 hours from the collection time. A reference blood smear was conducted as a control sample before further experiments. Peripheral blood smears were performed on diamond thin films. The smears were analyzed within 15 minutes, with the use of a bright field microscope (Nikon Eclipse 80) with a 1000x magnification using an immersion objective.
The investigated samples:
0k - nanocrystalline diamond layers
2.5 k - boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond layer (level 2.5 k during PVD)
5k - boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond layer (level 5 k during PVD)
7.5k - boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond layer (level 7.5 k during PVD)
10k - boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond layer (level 10 k during PVD)
