Mechanical response of human thoracic spine ligaments under quasi-static loading (Raw Data)

Description

The RawDataSet contains experimental results from quasi-static uniaxial stretching tests of the ligaments of the human thoracic spine. The data includes results for the tensioning of Anterior Longitudinal Ligaments, Posterior Longitudinal Ligaments, Capsular Ligaments, Ligamentum Flavum, Interspinous Ligaments, and Supraspinous Ligaments.

The test was conducted on a custom-designed testing machine that has been registered for patent protection at the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland under number P.443948. All samples were preconditioned with 10% strain for 60 cycles at 1 Hz before the tests and were then allowed to recover for an additional 60 seconds. The samples were subsequently prestressed with a force of 5 N. During the tensile testing phase, all samples were subjected to a constant load at a strain rate of 0.5 s^(-1) until complete failure.

Folder names correspond to the date of testing. Subfolders contain information about the Functional Spine Unit from which the samples originate (for example, T1-T2 indicates ligaments between the first and second thoracic vertebrae). File names indicate the ligaments tested (for example, ALL for Anterior Longitudinal Ligament).

Data was saved in MATLAB file format. Channel_1_Data contains readings from the force sensor placed centrally above the stretched sample. Channel_2_Data, Channel_3_Data, and Channel_4_Data contain readings from three force sensors placed under the sample. Channel_5_Data contains information about the displacement of the arm stretching the sample.
