Percentage of the population over 65 in selected EU countries in 2006 and 2017

Description

Until the mid-1980s, Poland belonged to the group of countries with a high dynamics of population growth, reaching 0.9% annually. The average value of the population growth dynamics in the 1980s was 0.66%. From the beginning of this century, the growth rate has taken negative values and in the years 2000-2014 it amounted to an annual average of -0.03%.

According to Eurostat predictions, the population in Poland will decrease by about 7 million by 2070. The main reason for this is the decline in the fertility rate since 1990, which reached a very low level. Despite the fact that the forecasts indicate an increase in the fertility rate in Poland, the level of replacement is insufficient. At the same time, the average life expectancy is growing, which will increase by about 7 years for people aged 65 in 2016-2017.
