Description
According to the report "The book market in Poland 2014, the Library of Analysis", nearly 40,000 publishers were registered in Poland until mid-2013, of which it is estimated that only about 2,000-2,500 were active as publishers. According to the estimates of the authors of the Report, the value of the Polish book market in 2013 amounted to PLN 2.68 billion. Compared to the previous year, there was a slight increase in the value of book sales from PLN 2.67 billion in 2012. When analyzing the value of book sales over 5 years, a systematic decrease in sales revenues can be noticed, especially noticeable when we compare 2011 and 2010. The authors of the Report emphasize that one of the main reasons for the decline in revenues on the Polish book market is the introduced 5% VAT rate instead of the zero rate. When formulating conclusions on the impact of the VAT increase on books, the authors of the study took into account "global trends in the publishing market" related to the decline in sales of traditional books in favor of electronic publications.
