Spatial development concept for the Outer Port in Gdańsk - work number 2/22/23

Description

The research series presents in a form of a design chart possible variants of the spatial layout of the water and land areas of the Outer Port of Gdańsk using different combinations of terminals with different annual turnover volumes. Individual works in the series present different solutions for anchorages, channels, port entrances, turntables and basins, both in terms of their size and mutual location. Work number 2/22/23 is the subject of this study.

The work number 2/22/23 provide for the westward extension of the North Port of Gdansk. The premise of the new part of the port is based on the construction of a massive north-facing pier. The pier will be surrounded by breakwaters from the east-north, north and west-north sides. Between the east side of the the pier and the east breakwater, and between the west side of the pier and the west breakwater, there will be water areas with a turning tables. Both the western and eastern water areas will have their own entrances, which will be connected to the existing approach channels to the port of Gdańsk. The two water areas will also be connected to each other by the inner port canal to the north.
