Comets' Organic Studies: Exploring the Mechanisms of Electron-Induced Chemistry - Joint Experimental and Theoretical Approach

The aim of the project is to create a strong research team to study the mechanisms of electron-molecule interactions by combining the potential of the research groups from the Comenius University in Bratislava and the Gdańsk University of Technology and creating the basis for future cooperation in joint, international research projects. As part of this project, the group in Bratislava will be responsible for carrying out complex experimental measurements, and the group in Gdańsk for theoretical calculations allowing for the correct interpretation of the results obtained at the partner university. Experimental data supported by theoretical calculations allow to determine how the molecules of the tested gas affect the direction of electron path and how electrons change the physical and chemical state of the target at a given energy. The project also aims to share experience and knowledge, and in particular to enable students and young scientists to use the expertise of the partner research group not only during planned visits, but also remotely. The team from the Comenius University in Bratislava will benefit from improving skills in the field of theoretical calculations on the new KRAKEN supercomputer located in Gdańsk, and the research group from the Gdańsk University of Technology will use the partner's experimental knowledge when adapting the newly developed experimental setup to measure cross-sections in their laboratories.
