The aim of the planned scientific study is to determine the correlation between fundamental wood cutting parameters, such as cutting speed and feed rate, and color parameters described in the CIELAB system.
The scope of the research project includes: preparation of wood samples; conducting experimental tests involving cross-cutting of frame and circular wood; measurement of the color of the processed surface at specified time intervals; creation of a model correlating cutting parameters with color parameters; validation of the model through the implementation of a cutting test.
Beech wood samples will be subjected to the research, as they are among the most commonly used materials in the timber industry in Central Europe, particularly in furniture and wooden flooring production. The wood will undergo a natural drying process in laboratory conditions to avoid thermal treatments.
Cutting tests: The material under investigation will undergo cutting tests using a frame saw and a circular format saw. These tests will be conducted for various cutting parameter values (cutting speed and feed rate) within wide ranges.
Measurements of color parameters in the CIELAB system: Color parameter measurements will be carried out using the Konica Minolta Color Reader CR-10 spectrometer. Measurements will be taken immediately after the cutting process as well as at subsequent time intervals to verify color stability over time.
Results analysis: By analyzing the color changes on the processed wood surface, a correlation analysis between specific cutting parameters and color parameters will be conducted. All dependencies will be verified using statistical methods to determine statistically significant relationships.
Development of the model: The results obtained from the correlation analysis between the applied cutting parameters and the resulting color parameters in the CIELAB system will be used to create an initial basic mathematical model that defines these relationships.
This project may serve as a basis for further research, and the obtained results will be published in highly ranked scientific journals.
