Nanocrystalline high-entropy spinel oxide films: the influence of electron configuration and crystallographic position of cations on physicochemical properties
This project aims to deposit and study a novel material group of high-entropy oxides. The main objective of the project is to investigate spinel-based high-entropy oxides (SP-HEO) prepared as thin layers by spray pyrolysis technique. SP-HEO formed at (A,B,C,D,E,…)3O4 composition, based on five or more equimolar mixture of cations, mostly transition metal elements. The goal is to establish a synthetic route yielding high-quality thin films, explore their structural and electrical properties and determine optimal cation composition and film microstructure for the best electrocatalytic performance. Besides, a detailed study of these materials prepared as thin layers can give a deep insight into the fundamental nature of the physicochemical properties of high-entropy oxide nanocrystalline films. Without a doubt, these investigations contribute to advances in high-entropy ordered materials design. The expected results of the project may contribute to the promotion of Gdańsk University of Technology internationally. Moreover, the project will enhance research capabilities through the purchase of ultrasonic spraying nozzle previously unavailable at the Gdańsk University of Technology and allow the PI to participate and present results at the international conferences.

Evaluation of structural and electrical properties of multicomponent spinel oxide thin films deposited via spray pyrolysis technique
PublicationThis work reports the preparation of (Mn,Co,Fe,Ni,Cr)3O4 high-entropy spinel oxide in the form of a ~ 500 nm thin film utilising a facile spray pyrolysis technique. The structural and electrical properties of the layers were characterised after exposure to temperatures in the range of 400–900 ◦C. The as-deposited layers were amorphous, and crystallised upon heat treatment at 500 ◦C. Microstructural analyses proved a homogeneous...
