Better Paper Packaging Management

The BePacMan project focuses on extending the life cycles of paper packaging through cross-sector and cross-border approaches to reuse in the South Baltic region. The partner countries: Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Sweden and Denmark are developing sustainable logistics concepts for this purpose and exchanging ideas with important stakeholders such as e-commerce, logistics and waste management companies as well as technology providers and political decision-makers in all partner countries. In this way, new economically and ecologically sustainable business models for the reuse of packaging are to be developed. The packaging should remain in its shape for as long as possible, thus avoiding the generation of paper waste by reusing the paper packaging to extend the life cycle of the packaging materials and thus facilitate the shift from linear to circular resource use. At the same time, the energy and water costs for processing the paper can be further optimised through recycling and climate-damaging emissions can be reduced. In order to achieve the EU-wide greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2030, stricter regulations and adjustments to climate protection laws will follow. The BePacMan project offers the opportunity to establish new shipping concepts in order to support trade and industry in implementing their climate protection strategies by reducing their CO2 emissions. This project addresses the importance of multiple use of resources and crosssectoral and cross-border approaches to facilitate the transition to the sustainable circular economy and its impact on climate change mitigation in the Baltic Sea region. The goal is to keep the packaging in its form in use for as long as possible The challenge is to develop supply chains that either are reversible or can provide a resources for the next supply chains. In the long term, the institutions involved in the project can expect both ecological and economic benefits through the development of new, sustainable business practices that will contribute to building more sustainable communities and economic environments.
