The introduced concept of the circular economy has a significant impact on shaping the sustainable management of construction and demolition waste (CDW) in the EU countries. Highly developed European economies have well developed segregation systems and infrastructure for the reuse of demolition materials. In Poland, the rates of reuse of materials from CDW are still relatively low, and action is needed to ensure that Poland fulfills its obligations under EU legislation in this area. Research on best practices in the management of construction and demolition waste (in Europe) aims to establish valuable guidelines for activities in the area of sustainable development in the construction sector in Poland. As part of the project, the research will cover: a) Analysis of legal regulations: comparison of applicable regulations and implemented policies in various European countries regarding the reuse of demolition materials. b) Assessing the effectiveness of construction and demolition waste management systems in different European countries to identify best practices for segregation, recycling, recovery, reuse and landfill avoidance that can be implemented in Poland. c) Examples of education and training activities related to the sustainable management of CDW. Analysis of training programs for workers in the construction sector to identify effective methods to raise awareness and knowledge about sustainable waste management. d) Based on the information obtained during a 3-day business trip, an analysis of 4 case studies of successful projects in Belgium, the Netherlands and France to identify best European practices that bring positive results in the management of demolition waste, which can provide inspiration and guidance for the Polish sector construction.
