Shape and displacement optimization of gold nanorods in the killing chamber in order to phototermoablation processes

The project’s purpose is to investigate the heat and mass transfer processes in a micro-scale, ultimately bacteria-/viruses-contained chamber. The chamber would be undergone the photothermoablation process using gold nanorods. The main researchers’ challenges are to optimize the gold nanorods’ shape and the chamber itself in order to maximize the temperature increase and to deactivate the largest number of the bacteria at the same time. This occurs when the temperature exceeds a temperature value in the chamber. However, there is virtually impossible to measure the temperature inside the chamber due to the technical problems experimentally and therefore numerical methods emerge as a suitable technique to handle the topic and to compare with the experimental results at any surface. The so-applied methods’ advantages are its simplicity unquestionably, and enables to study many different cases included harmful biological issues, e.g. tumors placed in a liver, pancreas or even in blood .
