Engineers' regattas 2024

The project aims to support the development of students by preparing and enabling them to take part in prestigious waterborne vehicle regattas. The race is an engineering and sports competition, requiring the use of independently designed and built vessels, covering 3 categories: 1. muscle-powered vessels (Surface Human-Powered Vehicles, Waterbikes), a category dedicated to students of the design and construction of yachts and recreational equipment, especially in the context of free-time business development; 2. muscle-powered underwater units (Underwater HPV, Submarines), a category dedicated to students planning a career related to underwater technologies, especially in the context of operating offshore wind energy facilities; 3. photovoltaic-powered vessels (Solar Boats), a competition addressed to students of shipbuilding and ocean engineering, mainly in the context of future green propulsion systems and advanced hydromechanics of fast, ecological vessels. Project goals: 1. Stimulating the activity of students participating in the work of students research clubs by enabling effective competition with foreign teams, equalizing opportunities and bringing the value of the available budget closer to the amounts available to the competition teams. 2. Developing a studnets feeling of empowerment and the habit of independently acquiring knowledge, also in processes that go beyond formal education. 3. Promoting leaders of the student research movement. 4. Professional development of participants, encouraging them to take up new challenges, in particular to pursue MSc and PhD studies and an academic career. Main assumptions: Students are to acquire and test during the competition advanced skills in modern techniques of designing and operating water vehicles, including: a) Minimization of hydrodynamic resistance. b) Drive optimization. c) Innovation management training (TRIZ methodology). d) Ensuring appropriate preparation from the sports side. e) Training in repair techniques. f) Necessary medical examinations, specialized training and underwater teamwork training.
