The influence of tram traffic on the rail wear increasing in time and heavy metal emissions around the tram route.
Rail wear and supplementation of heavy metals in the soil around a tram route depends on the geometrical layout of the route, the arrangement of tram stops, driving dynamics and the cumulative load on the tram route. Despite the increased emission of selected heavy metals in relation to road transport, tram transport is still one of the most ecological means of urban transport.
Importance of the project for GUT: Preliminary research allowing for later submission of the project from the NCBiR Lider program or starting cooperation with the industry. In a recently implemented project for the Ministry of Infrastructure, a gap in knowledge related to the wear of tram rails was identified.
