Integrated system for SImultaneous Recovery of Energy, organics and Nutrients and generation of valuable products from municipal wastewater
The aim of the project is to develop and implement an integrated system for recource recovery and generation of valuable products in municipal wastewater treatment plants. The scope comprises 6 work packages, including the following elements: sludge management, reject water treatment (GUT involved), enhancing biofuel production, development of a metagenomic model for microbial transformations, model-based evaluation and life cycle assessment (LCA) of the integrated system (GUT involved), assessment of the quality and reusability of the generated products.

Net-zero carbon condition in wastewater treatment plants: A systematic review of mitigation strategies and challenges
PublicationThe wastewater sector accounts for up to 7 and 10% of anthropogenic CH4 and N2O emissions, respectively. Nowadays wastewater treatment plants are going through a paradigm shift to approach a net-zero carbon condition. Numerous ongoing measures have taken place to identify the sources of greenhouse gases and minimize the carbon footprint. This paper systematically reviews all known practices leading towards net-zero carbon wastewater...
