Knowledge management in SMEs – selected issues.

Abstract

The success of a small or medium-size enterprise might be dependent on the way in which this company manages its knowledge. With limited access to other resources like land, capital or labor force, the access to knowledge and its effective application might become a source of competitive advantage for an SME. It is confirmed that organizations, which successfully implement the concept of knowledge management might achieve better results in terms of activity, innovations, higher level of customer service and foreseeing trends and phenomena on the market [Desouza, Awazu, 2006]. The article presents the concept of knowledge management in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises. It first analyses various studies on KM in such companies, next is deals with knowledge acquisition, which is an important process in SMEs and finally it discusses on critical success factors for KM implementation in those companies.
