Abstract
The presented work is aimed at utilisation of waste heat in the manner to produce electricity in ORC installation. Therefore the precondition of the study was to use the waste heat available in the form of a stream of hot water at 90°C. Such low enthalpy heat source is rather insufficient to produce a good quality vapour to feed the ORC turbine. That was the incentive to search for the ways of increasing the temperature of the vapour at ORC turbine inlet. In authors opinion the low pressure steam, regarded as waste from various technological processes, fits very well that idea. This paper considers a refinement of an original approach to increase temperature of the vapour of ORC working fluid at the inlet to the turbine through the use of heat from the low-pressure condensing steam. In such way additional heat is used to enhance parameters of steam in the ORC installation. Condensation of steam in the process of heating of ORC working fluid is advantageous also from the exergy destruction point of view. The objective of the present paper is the analysis of operational and thermodynamic parameters of the demonstration facility developed at the Department of Energy and Industrial Apparatus of Gdansk University of Technology. The aim is to obtain the highest level of electricity generation from the flux of hot water with temperature of 90oC. Considered is ethanol as working fluid in ORC with respect to obtain highest output and efficiency of the cycle.
