Microgrid Energy Management System

Abstract

In the era of rapid development of "green energy” and storage devices, microgrids implemented in line with the concept of distributed generation can be an effective form of power management. There is a need for an efficient, optimal and reliable control of the combined infrastructure. The article presents a flexible, configurable microgrid's resources control system, which executes the task of meeting the electricity demand of local households with regard to economic issues. The system developed by the authors varies from the typical solutions available on the market - each user integrates its resources with the microgrid for personal gain. A decentralized control structure using controllers located in each household, built on open code optimizers and low-cost hardware was developed. In order to minimize the chances of a failure, a solution redundant in the aspects of communication and hot standby control devices was developed. A configurable optimization task, which takes into account settlement system between participants, as well as the possible need for withdrawal of the device, e.g. due to damage was defined. A comprehensive verification was done, using simulations for the sample microgrid with different ways of generating and storing.
