Abstract
The objective of this investigation was to recognize nitrogen speciation during wastewater treatment in three multistage TWs (MTWs), which are assuming more a most effective in nitrogen removal than single stage TWs. Carried out investigations and analysis enable for determination of conditions, relationships and processes responsible for nitrogen conversions in subsequent stages of MTWs. In treated wastewater and reject water from centrifugation by means of MTWs main form of organic nitrogen were the colloidal 25–37% of Org-N and dissolved 45–54% of Org-N. Preliminary assessment of the results indicates that the TW technology provides similar conditions as the high –tech solutions and, consequently, a similar quality of effluent could be achieved. Nitrogen transformation and removal in treatment wetland could be dependent on its degree of dispersion.
