Biography

Ryszard Jan Barczyński  (b. 24 June 1957 in Gdańsk), Polish scientist, engineer, a specialist in solid state physics and electronic measurement techniques.

In 1976, he obtained a high school diploma in the IV High School Tadeusz Kosciuszko in Torun. Higher education he graduated in 1981 at the Institute of Physics, Technical University of Gdansk in specialty of solid state physics, obtaining master's degree in engineering. Since 1981, he works at the Technical University of Gdansk, serving from 2012 deputy dean of the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics.

In 1990 he received his doctorate at the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematic, and in 2009 a degree of DSc (habilitation) in the same department. The position of professor received in 2014. While working at the Technical University of Gdansk took several internships: University of Camerino (Italy) and the University of Patras (Greece). He is the author of over 100 publications on solid state physics, nanotechnology and materials science.

He is very active in the area of popularization of physics and engineering sciences and has organized numerous events, including lectures for Polish Physical Society, the Academy of 30+, the Baltic Festival of Science and the Pomeranian Science Festival. He worked in the District Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games in Physics. He served as Faculty Coordinator for science festivals, currently serves as University coordinator. For many years, he took care of the student scientific circle.

He actively cooperates with the economic environment. Author of many studies and projects, including for companies: Microsytem (Gdańsk), Infoservice (Gdańsk), KiB Communications (Gdynia), SWIS EXE (Gdańsk), Crosscom (Polish branch of the US company) and the KiG (Tczew).

He is a member of scientific organizations: Polish Physical Society and the Polish Society for Computer Simulations.

His hobby is the history of electronics, especially early history of semiconductor technique. Collector of thermionic tubes and the early semiconductor devices.

Orders and decorations, awards: the Silver Cross of Merit, Medal of the Commission of National Education, Hevelius Medal, Ignatius Adamczewski Medal, Award of the Gdańsk Branch of Polish Physical Society for popularization activities, multiple awards J.M. P. G. Rector for scientific, educational and organizational achievements.
