MRM–MS of marker peptides and their abundance as a tool for authentication of meat species and meat cuts in single-cut meat products
PublicationThe abundance of protein markers in different types of meat cuts was explored in the context of authentication of raw meat (pork, beef and chicken) and processed meat products. Peptides originating from myoglobin (Mb) and myosin (My) were analyzed using multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry (MRM–MS). Analytical protocol was optimized for good repeatability (CV < 10%) and high sensitivity. The MS signal intensity of Mb...

Working Conditions in Global Value Chains: Evidence for European Employees
PublicationThis article investigates a sample of almost nine million workers from 24 European countries in 2014 to conclude how involvement in global value chains (GVCs) affects working conditions. We use employer–employee data from the Structure of Earnings Survey merged with industry-level statistics on GVCs based on the World Input-Output Database. Given the multidimensional nature of the dependent variable, we compare estimates of the...

Connected early-career experiences of equality in academia during the pandemic and beyond: Our liminal journey
PublicationIn this paper, we draw on our subjective experiences as two female early-career academics during the global COVID-19 pandemic. While we acknowledge that the pandemic had negative implications for many female scholars due to compulsory telework or increased family responsibilities, we also want to shed light on the empowering experiences shaped by collegial support that became an important part of our pandemic story. We build on...

Effects of Laser Remelting at Cryogenic Conditions on Microstructure and Wear Resistance of the Ti6Al4V Alloy Applied in Medicine
PublicationThe titanium and its alloys can be subjected to surface treatment, including laser treatment. In this work a new laser treatment at cryogenic conditions of Ti6Al4V alloy has been described. The work has been aimed at establishing whether such surface treatment could be suitable for implants working under wear in biological corrosive environment. The remelting has been made with the use of CO2 continuous work laser at laser power...

Compact Electromagnetic Lens Antennas Using Cascaded Metasurfaces for Gain Enhancement and Beam Steering Applications
PublicationElectromagnetic (EM) lens antenna designs using cascaded metasurfaces for gain enhancement and beam steering applications are proposed. Two different lens aperture designs are proposed and populated with aperiodic unit cells of size 0.2λo × 0.2λo. In lens Design 1, the unit cells of different phases are distributed in concentric circular zones, whereas in lens Design 2, the unit cells of different phases are distributed in vertical...

Degree product formula in the case of a finite group action
PublicationLet V, W be finite dimensional orthogonal representations of a finite group G. The equivariant degree with values in the Burnside ring of G has been studied extensively by many authors. We present a short proof of the degree product formula for local equivariant maps on V and W.

The Hopf theorem for gradient local vector fields on manifolds
PublicationWe prove the Hopf theorem for gradient local vector fields on manifolds, i.e., we show that there is a natural bijection between the set of gradient otopy classes of gradient local vector fields and the integers if the manifold is connected Riemannian without boundary.
