Stwierdzono, że nie wiąże sie ona tylko z intensywna eksploatacją wód podziemnych na jednym z nadmorskich ujęć, lecz przede wszystkim wynika z naturalnych warunków hydrogeologicznych. Maksymalne zasolenie wód podziemnych wyniosło tu 1845 mg/dm3, a zasieg i tempo rozwoju intruzji wyraźnie zależał od położenia studni.
