PALION Adam (1977–)
Priest of the Katowice Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church, doctor of theology in the field of ecumenical theology
He was born on December 2, 1977 in Katowice. In 1998 he joined the Higher Silesian Theological Seminary in Katowice. In 2004 he obtained a master's degree in theology at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Silesia (Implementation of the recommendations of the Synod of the Diocese of Katowice regarding ecumenical pastoral work, supervisor priest Jan Górski). In the same year he was ordained a priest by the Archbishop of Katowice Damian Zimoń. In the years 2005–2007 he undertook postgraduate studies in pastoral theology, which he completed with the work: The Importance of the Gniezno Conventions against the Background of Uniting Europe, promoter priest Józef Budniak). In the years 2008–2010 he studied in Vienna. In 2010 he obtained the degree of doctor of theology in the field of ecumenical theology at the University of Silesia (Ecumenical dimension of the episcopal ministry of Herbert Bednorz, promoter priest Józef Budniak). He worked as a priest and served as a teacher of religion in parishes in Żory (2004–2007, 2011–2013), in Piaśniki (2007–2008) and Katowice-Załęże (2013–2016) and Katowice-Bogucice (2016–2020). Since 2020, he has been working in the parish in Ruda Śląska-Orzegów.
In the years 2007–2012 he was a member of the Archdiocesan Ecumenical Commission in Katowice. From 2012 he is the chairman of this commission. He is a board member of the Association of Ecumenist Theologians. In the years 2012–2016 he was the secretary of the Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue of the Second Synod of the Archdiocese of Katowice. He was the organizer and participant of many ecumenical symposia. He is the author of two books and several articles on ecumenical issues.
Since 2015, he has been the initiator and lecturer at the Ecumenical Academy and Interreligious Dialogue at the Silesian Library in Katowice. He is the editor-in-chief of the Oecumenica Silesiana magazine since 2017 and the editor of the publishing series of the Biblioteka Oecumenica Silesiana. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Polish-Czech and Polish-Slovak Relations Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In 2018, he received the Karol Miarka award for outstanding achievements enriching the cultural values of the region and the country.
In his research, he devotes himself to the issues of oecumenismus practicalis and oecumenismus spiritualis (practical ecumenism and spiritual ecumenism) as well as inter-religious and inter-human dialogue in interpersonal relations, and also deals with hate speech in public space.
