  • Anisotropic, multiband, and strong-coupling superconductivity of the Pb0.64Bi0.36 alloy
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

This paper presents theoretical and experimental studies on the superconductivity of Pb0.64Bi0.36 alloy, which is a prototype of strongly coupled superconductors and exhibits one of the strongest coupling under ambient pressure among the materials studied so far. The critical temperature, the specific heat in the superconducting state, and the magnetic critical fields are experimentally determined. Deviations from the single-gap...

  • Charge density wave, enhanced mobility, and large nonsaturating magnetoresistance across the magnetic states of HoNiC2 and ErNiC2
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

We report on magnetotransport and thermoelectric properties of two ternary carbides HoNiC2 and ErNiC2 hosting both charge density wave and long-range magnetic order. In the charge density wave state, both compounds show relatively large magnetoresistance MR ≈ 150% in HoNiC2 and ≈ 70%in ErNiC2 at a magnetic field of 9 T and temperature as low as 2 K. This positive field-linear magnetoresistance shows no signatures of saturation....

  • Continuum contact model for friction between graphene sheets that accounts for surface anisotropy and curvature
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

Understanding the interaction mechanics between graphene layers and co-axial carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is essential for modeling graphene and CNT-based nanoelectromechanical systems. This work proposes a new continuum contact model to study interlayer interactions between curved graphene sheets. The continuum model is calibrated and validated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. These are carried out employing the reactive...

  • Ferromagnetism and structural phase transition in rhombohedral PrIr3
    Publikacja

The synthesis, structural, magnetic, thermal, and transport properties are reported for polycrystalline PrIr3. At room temperature PrIr3 displays the rhombohedral space group R-3m and a PuNi3-type structure. At around 70 K a phase transition to a monoclinic C2/m structure is observed and continued cooling reveals temperature independent behavior of the unit cell volume. Further, PrIr3 undergoes a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition with...

  • Large magnetoresistance and first-order phase transition in antiferromagnetic single-crystalline EuAg4Sb2
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

present the results of a thorough investigation of the physical properties of single crystals using magnetization, heat capacity, and electrical resistivity measurements. High-quality single crystals, which crystallize in a trigonal structure with space group , were grown using a conventional flux method. Temperature-dependent magnetization measurements along different crystallographic orientations confirm two antiferromagnetic...

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

We explore the topological electronic band structure of the pyrochlore lattice in the strong spin-orbit coupling regime. Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, first-principles calculations, and symmetry analysis, we have investigated the bulk electronic structure of RbBi2, which has a Bi pyrochlore network. We observe the presence of 3D massless Dirac fermions enforced by nonsymmorphic symmetry, as well as a 3D quadratic...

  • Quasi-one-dimensional exchange interactions and short-range magnetic correlations in CuTeO4
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

CuTeO4 has been proposed as a crystallographically distinct, yet electronic structure analog, of the superconducting cuprates. Here, we present a detailed characterization of the physical properties of CuTeO4 to address this proposal. Fitting of magnetic susceptibility data indicates unexpected quasi-one-dimensional, antiferromagnetic correlations at high temperature, with a nearest-neighbor Heisenberg exchange of 1=164⁢(5) K....

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2024

Here we report muon spin rotation (μSR) experiments on the temperature and field dependence of the effective magnetic penetration depth λ(T ) in the η-carbide-type suboxide Ti4Ir2O, a superconductor with a considerably high upper critical field. The temperature dependence of λ(T ), obtained from transverse-field (TF)-μSR measurements, is in perfect agreement with an isotropic fully gaped superconducting state. Furthermore, our...

Detailed structural and magnetotransport properties of monophosphate tungsten bronze Kx(PO2)4(WO3)8 single crystals are reported. Both galvanomagnetic and thermal properties are shown to be consistent with a charge density wave electronic transition due to hidden nesting of the quasi-1D portion of the Fermi surface. We also observe the enhancement of electronic anisotropy due to reconstruction of the Fermi surface at the Peierls...

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2016

The electronic structure of selected rare-earth atoms adsorbed on a free-standing graphene was investigated using methods beyond the conventional density functional theory (DFT+U, DFT +HIA, and DFT+ED). The influence of the electron correlations and the spin-orbit coupling on the magnetic properties has been examined. The DFT+U method predicts both atoms to carry local magnetic moments (spin and orbital) contrary to a nonmagnetic...

  • Field-induced suppression of charge density wave in GdNiC2

We report the specific heat, magnetic, magnetotransport, and galvanomagnetic properties of polycrystalline GdNiC 2 . In the intermediate temperature region above T N = 20 K, we observe large negative magnetoresistance due to Zeeman splitting of the electronic bands and partial destruction of a charge density wave ground state. Our magnetoresistance and Hall measurements show that at low temperatures a magnetic field-induced transformation from...

We report the study of Nernst effect in quasi-low-dimensional tungsten bronze P4W12O44 showing a sequence of Peierls instabilities. We demonstrate that both condensation of the electronic carriers in the charge density wave state and the existence of high-mobility electrons and holes originating from the small pockets remaining in the incompletely nested Fermi surface give rise to a Nernst effect of a magnitude similar to that...

  • Pressure effects on the superconductivity of the HfPd2Al Heusler compound: Experimental and theoretical study
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2015

Polycrystalline HfPd2Al has been synthesized using the arc-melting method and studied under ambient-pressure conditions by x-ray diffraction from room temperature up to 450 °C. High-pressure x-ray diffraction up to 23 GPa was also performed using Diacell-type membrane diamond anvil cells. The estimated linear thermal expansion coefficient was found to be α=1.40(3)×10−5K−1, and the bulk modulus derived from the fit to the third-order...

We present the results obtained by superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry, specific heat, and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements carried out on Np2Ni17 polycrystalline samples. We show that long-range magnetic order, with a moment mu((2b)) similar to 2.25 mu(B), occurs below T-N = 17.5 K on the Np (2b) sites. A nontrivial situation is observed in that the other Np sites (2d) do not take part to the order...

Neutron diffraction and inelastic spectroscopy is used to characterize the magnetic Hamiltonian of SrHo2O4 and SrDy2O4. Through a detailed computation of the crystal-field levels we find site-dependent anisotropic single-ion magnetism in both materials, and diffraction measurements show the presence of strong one-dimensional spin correlations. Our measurements indicate that competing interactions of the zigzag chain, combinedwith...

  • Noncentrosymmetric superconductor with a bulk three-dimensional Dirac cone gapped by strong spin-orbit coupling
    Publikacja

    - PHYSICAL REVIEW B - Rok 2014

The layered, noncentrosymmetric heavy element PbTaSe2 is found to be superconducting. We report its electronic properties accompanied by electronic-structure calculations. Specific heat, electrical resistivity, and magnetic-susceptibility measurements indicate that PbTaSe2 is a moderately coupled, type-IIBCSsuperconductor (Tc = 3.72 K, Ginzburg–Landau parameter κ = 17) with an electron-phonon coupling constant of λep = 0.74. Electronic-structure...
