Solar radiation (PAR, UV-B and UV-A) reaching the sea surface - Gdańsk Deep (2001-2005)

Opis

Solar radiation reaching the sea surface was measured in spring (2001, 2003, 2005) and autumn (2002, 2004). For measurements of the photosynthetic active radiation - PAR (400-700 nm), the Ejkelkamp SKP 210 / I 0896 13595 sensor was used, the UV-B radiation (280-315 nm) was measured with the Ejkelkamp SKU 430 0497 14854 sensor, while UV-A (315- 380 nm) Skye sensor SKU 420 0702 24484.

At the turn of May and June 2001 and in May 2003, the highest PAR radiation and relatively high UVB and UVA radiation were measured (fig).

During the 5 series of measurements, the insolation time lasted from about 10 hours in autumn (2002, 2004) to 16 hours in spring (2001). In spring, during the sunniest days around noon, radiation the PAR reached 1500 µmol m-2 s-1. Radiation in the UVB band in May 2001 and 2003 reached 1.05 and 0.95 W m-2. The radiation results in all bands were then characterized by very high dispersion. The most stable radiation values were recorded at the end of April 2005. During these measurements, the highest radiation in the UVB and UVA range was recorded. Every day in the afternoon, the UVB intensity exceeds 1.00 W m-2, while the UVA exceeds 18.00 W m-2. In the autumn, very low radiation values occurred with a minimum at the turn of September and October 2002, when the radiation stream in the PAR did not exceed 900 µmol m-2 s-1, and UVB and UVA intensity were less than 0.50 and 12.70 W m-2 respectively.
