Synergiczny efekt zaawansowanych metod utleniania (elektrolizy i ozonowania) zaimplementowany do oczyszczania ścieków z placówek medycznych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ścieżek degradacji farmaceutyków
The main AID-4WATER project objective is to enhance the security and resilience of water resources by developing a cost-effective system for reclaiming medical wastewater and protecting recipients from persistent micropollutants (MPs), e.g., pharmaceuticals, personal care products, disinfectants and emerging microorganisms. Special focus will be given to solve important problems in developed European rural and recreation areas that can be further implemented in rapidly expending but poor, agricultural regions of Africa. Up to now in both areas the essential problems had been already recognized, thus AID-4WATER project aims to design a new cost-effective modular medical-wastewater treatment unit (MMWW-TU) for protecting water resources. The complex nature of the current project will allow for multidisciplinary collaboration to: (I) develop effective, efficient and durable electrode materials for MPs removal and disinfection; (II) design and construct a MMWW-TU (incl. electrochemical oxidation at new carbon-based nanostructured electrode combined with ozonation process); (III) analyse MMWW-TU efficiency in MPs removal and disinfection capability in the laboratory; and (IV) validate (in situ) the MMWW-TU on a selected reference object (in Poland). This will help to mitigate the medical sector’s impact and protect water resources, which is coherent with EU Green Deal ambitions, (e.g. Towards Zero Pollution, Water-Smart Society) and UN Sustainable Development concepts (e.g. Goal 6), as well as the GdańskTech strategy for 2020–2030 “Technology for People and the Planet”. AID-4WATER represents an excellent opportunity to reduce level of contaminants by the application of fit-for-purpose and green technology, suitable in EU and African rural areas to achieve the water-for-all visionary strategy.
