A comprehensive review of open data platforms, prevalent technologies, and functionalities

Abstrakt

Open data can play a crucial role in different sectors of the world,such as government, science, research, technology, culture, andfinance. There are several necessary measures that every organiza-tion needs to consider before opening data. There are three majorsteps to opening the data: (1) Preparation stage, and (2) launchingthe open data initiative (3) In this case, the feedback mechanismstudy such as expand and sustain stage, our focus is on the secondstep, which is how to launch the data as an open dataset and whatplatforms are available in the market. There are several pros andcons associated with each platform that need to be discussed beforepublishing the data to get the maximum outcomes in a sustainableand transparent way. We will discuss seven major open data plat-forms, such as (1) CKAN (2) DKAN (3) Socrata (4) OpenDataSoft (5)GitHub (6) Google datasets (7) Kaggle. We will evaluate the techno-logical commons, techniques, features, methods, and visualizationoffered by each tool. In addition, why are these platforms importantto users such as providers, curators, and end-users? And what arethe key options available on these platforms to publish open data?At the end of this study, an individual will be able to select one ofthem for their open data initiative to launch the data as open.
