Abstrakt
Abstract The increasing number of diabetic individuals globally has highlighted the demand for nanostructured materials and devices for glucose detection, showcasing and demonstrating their importance in improving public health. Significant progress has correspondingly been made in the chemical modification of porous nanoparticles and nano-scale materials. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), due to their highly porous structure and catalytic properties, show great potential for glucose detection through oxidation mechanisms, which appears a key in fabrication of biosensors. However, limitations such as low stability and inadequate conductivity have convinced researchers that designing more complicated yet advanced MOF-based hybrid structures would be required for enhnaced glucose sensing and detection. This review provides an overview of the functions of MOFs in fabricating spectroscopic and electrochemical sensors for glucose detection. Moreover, it undertakes the mechanisms of enzymatic and nonenzymatic glucose sensors. Furthermore, other sensing-related applications of MOF-based materials in microfluidic systems, wearable devices, and advanced sensor technologies are briefly overviewed. Finally, challenges in designing MOF-based hybrid materials for glucose sensing and recommendations for future research are highlighted.
