Abstrakt
Hybrid Constructed Wetlands are composed of two or more filters with mixed flow direction of sewage. Apparently in the HCWS the benefits of both types of bed are merged, resulting in better effluent quality (organic and nitrogen componds removal). Such heterogeneous environment creates possibilities for different ways of nitrogen "disappearing". The objective of the present study was to compare the removal of nitrogen with accompanying conditions such as hydraulic and organic loading, oxygen conditions, redox potential, pH, alkalinity, availability of easily decompostable organic compounds and theoretical nitrogenous biological oxygen demand to evaluate the nitrogen conversion process. The studies were carried out in full -scale HCW for 200 pe, with in two years monitoring period. Studyed HCW ensured stable and very effective removal of all analysed pollutants : BOD5 and COD were equal: 97.9% and 90.6% respectively. Unexpected high efficiency of N compounds removal were observed in the first stage of treatment in HF I. Removal efficiency of TKN was over 46% and was coupled with very high nearly 80.5 % of BOD removal suggesting potential heterotrophic competition for oxygen, which supply in this stage of treatment is strongly limited.
