Sea bottom structure investigation by means of acoustic methods

Abstrakt

The main aim of the paper is the result of experimental investigations of the seabed in the Gulf of Gdańsk arried out using parametric echosounder as a main measuring tool. Examination of the surface's upper layer of the seabed, especially is acoustic properties, reflecting most often transsmision and reflection properties of the incident elastic wave, could be a valuable material for determination of the stratification, and the structure of the seabed. Especially important and dificult to find is a relation between mechanical properties of the sediments and shapes of signals reflected by the sediments. Acoustic images illustrating diversified of structure of the seabed of the Gulf of Gdańsk obtained as a result of done repeatedly sea research, are presented in the paper. Result of investigations were compared qualitatively to accessible geological maps of a given sea area. In few cases a material of the upper layer of the sea floor was recived by means of a little invading method by a driver. Results of investigations, obtained by three independent methods, especially concerning the seafloor properties, generally give a good compatibility and are promising for further research in this subject.
