Abstrakt
Anthropopressure strongly affects the primal water cycle. Alternation of the natural basins imposes changes of drainage patterns, reduction of bioretention, infiltration and base flow. As a result the overland flow predominates and greater runoff rates flow into storm water collection systems and reservoirs. Moreover changing climatic conditions increase the frequency of rapid extreme weather events. Infrastructures of urban areas and citizens are exposed to the dangerous increase of the maximum discharge associated with flash floods, damages on hydrotechnical structures, as well as environmental risks due to the surface runoff contamination. To reduce the flood risk and protect public health, integrated solutions including precipitation, stream flow and reservoirs storage monitoring and management should be implemented in urbanized drainage basins. In years 2011-2013 Department of Hydraulic Engineering (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Gdańsk University of Technology) in collaboration with The Provincial Fund For Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk and Gdańskie Melioracje Sp. z o.o introduced monitoring system in the Strzyża River basin in Gdansk. Collected data allowed constructing the hydrological model for one of the most flood prone areas of Gdansk. In frame of ongoing project (2015-2017), research on development of the flood control methods, numerical modeling for build-up area inundation prediction, expansion of the existing rainfall-runoff and storage monitoring system, as well as integrated water quantity and quality analysis will be done. The first results of the rainfall- runoff modeling and storm runoff quality will be presented on IWA Specialist Conference on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control 2016
