Pupil size reflects successful encoding and recall of memory in humans
PublikacjaPupil responses are known to indicate brain processes involved in perception, attention and decision-making. They can provide an accessible biomarker of human memory performance and cognitive states in general. Here we investigated changes in the pupil size during encoding and recall of word lists. Consistent patterns in the pupil response were found across and within distinct phases of the free recall task. The pupil was most...

Pupil detection supported by Haar feature based cascade classifier for two-photon vision examinations
PublikacjaThe aim of this paper is to present a novel method, called Adaptive Edge Detection (AED), of extraction of precise pupil edge coordinates from eye image characterized by reflections of external illuminators and laser beams. The method is used for monitoring of pupil size and position during psychophysical tests of two-photon vision performed by dedicated optical set-up. Two-photon vision is a new phenomenon of perception of short-pulsed...

Computer-Supported Polysensory Integration Technology for Educationally Handicapped Pupils
PublikacjaIn this paper, a multimedia system providing technology for hearing and visual attention stimulation is shortly presented. The system aims to support the development of educationally handicapped pupils. The system has been presented in the context of its configuration, architecture, and therapeutic exercise implementation issues. Results of pupils’ improvements after 8 weeks of training with the system are also provided. Training...

Using wearable device for biomedical signal acquisition and processing
PublikacjaIn this paper we present the research conducted on synchronous measurements of biosignals. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the possibility of estimating vital signs based on eye tracking. Method: The eGlasses platform was used for acquisition of ECG, respiration rate, eye and pupil movement and blood pressure. Data were acquired in three 5 min. intervals during which a subject was performing certain tasks. The signals...

Investigation of Noise Threats and Their Impact on Hearing in Selected Schools
PublikacjaNoise measurements conducted in selected schools in Gdansk area are presented in this paper. The main aim of this research was to determine noise threats at schools. Some objective measurements of the acoustic climate were performed employing a noise monitoring station engineered at the Multimedia System Department, Gdansk University of Technology. Simultaneously, subjective noise annoyance examinations were carried out among pupils...

CyberEye: New Eye-Tracking Interfaces for Assessment and Modulation of Cognitive Functions beyond the Brain
PublikacjaThe emergence of innovative neurotechnologies in global brain projects has accelerated research and clinical applications of BCIs beyond sensory and motor functions. Both invasive and noninvasive sensors are developed to interface with cognitive functions engaged in thinking, communication, or remembering. The detection of eye movements by a camera offers a particularly attractive external sensor for computer interfaces to monitor,...

Multimedia polysensory integration training system dedicated to children with educational difficulties
PublikacjaThis paper aims at presenting a multimedia system providing polysensory train- ing for pupils with educational difficulties. The particularly interesting aspect of the system lies in the sonic interaction with image projection in which sounds generated lead to stim- ulation of a particular part of the human brain. The system architecture, video processing methods, therapeutic exercises and guidelines for children’s interaction...

Enhanced Eye-Tracking Data: a Dual Sensor System for Smart Glasses Applications
PublikacjaA technique for the acquisition of an increased number of pupil positions, using a combined sensor consisting of a low-rate camera and a high-rate optical sensor, is presented in this paper. The additional data are provided by the optical movement-detection sensor mounted in close proximity to the eyeball. This proposed solution enables a significant increase in the number of registered fixation points and saccades and can be used...

Multimodal Attention Stimulator
PublikacjaMultimodal attention stimulator was proposed and tested for improving auditory and visual attention, including pupils with developmental dyslexia. Results of the conducted experiments shown that the designed stimulator can be used in order to improve comprehension during reading tasks. The changes in the visual attention, observed in reading test results, translate into the overall reading performance.

A place of school in the idea of the sustainable development
PublikacjaWell designed school space enables social contacts, increases activity of pupils and improves the condition of their health. However, the best design would not bring the expected benefits if it is not integrated with the surroundings in terms of transportation, security and local needs. In the sustainable development, the social goals are in harmony with ecological aims according to the rule of "3 r" (reduce, reuse, recycle).

Attitude and self-esteem versus entrepreneurial intention among young in Poland
PublikacjaThe main aim of the paper is to present the relation between intentions to become an entrepreneurs among young polish people and the two factors with possible influence on it: self-efficacy and attitude towards entrepreneurship. Two groups of young people were examined: students enrolling the Management Faculty at Gdańsk University of Technology, and pupil from high schools, attending "Entrepreneurship" classes. It appeared that...

Intracranial electrophysiological recordings from the human brain during memory tasks with pupillometry
PublikacjaData comprise intracranial EEG (iEEG) brain activity represented by stereo EEG (sEEG) signals, recorded from over 100 electrode channels implanted in any one patient across various brain regions. The iEEG signals were recorded in epilepsy patients (N=10) undergoing invasive monitoring and localization of seizures when they were performing a battery of four memory tasks lasting approx. 1 hour in total. Gaze tracking on the task...

Two-photon perimetry utilizing picosecond laser
PublikacjaAge-related impairments are becoming more and more severe for aging societies. The sensory organ diseases are particularly troublesome as they exclude seniors from their everyday activity. Therefore, maintaining good quality eyesight is essential for normal functioning. New medical therapies help restrain age-related changes, but still, monitoring is essential to the treatment process. Humans do not have the natural ability to...

The evaluation of eGlasses eye tracking module as an extension for Scratch
PublikacjaIn this paper we present the possibility of using eGlasses eye tracking module as an extension for Scratch programming tool which is a visual programming language supporting computer skills learning. The main concept behind this project is to setup the interface for rapid interaction design. Eye tracking is a powerful tool for hands free communication but for that requires a dedicated software. This software is rarely tailored...
