The buckling analysis of a cold-formed steel C-sectional column resting on an elastic foundation
PublikacjaThe paper is focused on stability analysis of different models of steel cold-formed C-section column. The analysed element may be applied as a primary load-bearing member in steel trusses or silo columns. The column can be used as a support for a wall of roof plates made of corrugated sheets. The wall sheeting that restrains the column against buckling may be considered as an elastic foundation. Due to the design solutions the...

Beam on elastic foundation with anticlastic curvature: Application to analysis of mode I fracture tests
PublikacjaA first order correction is proposed taking into account both interface elasticity and transverse anticlastic curvature of flexible substrate(s) in the DCB (and related tests). Adherends are represented by Kirchhoff-Love plates, and the interface by Winkler-type elastic foundation. Two functions are introduced, representing evolution of beam deflection along the sample midline and anticlastic curvature along the plate. A method...

The beam is exposed to an axial magnetic field and embedded in Winkler–Pasternak foundation. The von Kármán hypothesis along with Hamilton’s principle has been implemented to derive the governing equations for both the vibration and buckling...

Bi-Helmholtz type of nonlocal elasticity is being used to capture the small scale effect of the FG nanobeam. Further, the...

A note on simple bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a deformable foundation
PublikacjaWe study bifurcation of equilibrium states of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation. In the article "Bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation" [Nonlinear Anal., Real World Appl. 39 (2018) 451-463] the existence of simple bifurcation points was proved by the use of the Crandall-Rabinowitz theorem. In this paper we want to present an alternative proof of this fact based...

Bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation
PublikacjaWe consider two-parameter bifurcation of equilibrium states of an elastic rod on a deformable foundation. Our main theorem shows that bifurcation occurs if and only if the linearization of our problem has nontrivial solutions. In fact our proof, based on the concept of the Brouwer degree, gives more, namely that from each bifurcation point there branches off a continuum of solutions.

Adhesive compliance effect in mode I separation:Profilometry approach
PublikacjaThe effect of adhesive compliance on the deflection of a loaded, bonded beam was studied using laser profilometry. Experimental data obtained were compared with both Euler-Bernoulli (encastré) and Winkler (one parameter elastic foundation) models. A third, analytical, 2D model, based on shear within the adhesive layer (two parameter elastic foundation), was introduced. Finite element analysis (FEA) was also used to study the effect...

Thermal Buckling Analysis of Circular Bilayer Graphene sheets Resting on an Elastic Matrix Based on Nonlocal Continuum Mechanics
PublikacjaIn this article, the thermal buckling behavior of orthotropic circular bilayer graphene sheets embedded in the Winkler–Pasternak elastic medium is scrutinized. Using the nonlocal elasticity theory, the bilayer graphene sheets are modeled as a nonlocal double–layered plate that contains small scale effects and van der Waals (vdW) interaction forces. The vdW interaction forces between the layers are simulated as a set of linear springs...

Generalized Taylor formula and shell structures for the analysis of the interaction between geosythetics and engineering structures of transportation lines
PublikacjaThe analysis of the interaction between geosynthetics and engineering structures (e.g. railroad bed, soil foundation, pipeline) assumes that the geosynthetic form elastic membranes or shell laid on different types of foundations. The mathematical description of that problems in continuous domain employs Laplace operator Δ or d’Alembert operator □. In this paper we demonstrate the analysis based on generalize Taylor formula, and...

The whole 3D silo was modeled as a single column resting on elastic foundation provided by the silo walls. In proposed formula for the calculation of the foundation stiffness the curvature of the silo walls was taken into account. Three different analyses were carried out using...

An in situ technique for the assessment of adhesive properties of a joint under load
PublikacjaSlow crack propagation in adhesive bonded joints has been characterised using an asymmetric wedge test. Crack position was evaluated from strain gauge measurements, both in the debonded partof the joint and in the bonded zone. Test temperature was changed during loading, giving insight into bond evolution. The technique allows accurate, and virtually continuous, determination of crack position to be made, and therefore the evaluation...

Accordingly three new tests were introduced in this work to study bonded joints. The new metrological...
