Low energy electron attachment to platinum(II) bromide (PtBr2)
PublikacjatDissociative electron attachment to PtBr2in the gas phase was studied in the low electron energy rangefrom zero up to 10 eV with an energy resolution of 150 meV. The experiments were carried out using ahemispherical electron monochromator coupled with a quadrupole mass spectrometer and pulse count-ing acquisition system. The only anion observed was Br−. This ion is formed at three resonance electronenergies: 0.4 eV, 1.2 eV and...

Low energy inelastic electron scattering from carbon monoxide: II. Excitation of the b3Σ+, j3Σ+, B1Σ+, C1Σ+ and E1Π Rydberg electronic states
PublikacjaIn this second part of a two part paper (first part: Zawadzki et al (2020 J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 53 165201)) we present differential scattering cross sections for excitation of several Rydberg electronic states of carbon monoxide by electron impact. The first part concerned the low-lying valence states of CO. In the present study cross sections are obtained experimentally using low-energy electron energy-loss spectroscopy...

Cross-sections for electron-scattering from 2-methyl-1-buten-3-yne, C 5 H 6 , molecules
PublikacjatCross-sections for electron collisions with the 2-methyl-1-buten-3-yne [H2C C(CH3)C CH] moleculewere measured and calculated. Absolute grand-total electron-scattering cross-section (TCS) was takenat impact energies from 0.6 to 300 eV in the linear electron-transmission experiment. The TCS energydependence for the electron–C5H6collision has two prominent enhancements separated with a deepminimum located near 1.8 eV. In addition,...

Probing the Magnetic Anisotropy of Co(II) Complexes Featuring Redox-Active Ligands
PublikacjaCoordination complexes that possess large magnetic anisotropy (otherwise known as zero-field splitting, ZFS) have possible applications in the field of magnetic materials, including single molecule magnets (SMMs). Previous studies have explored the role of coordination number and geometry in controlling the magnetic anisotropy and SMM behavior of high-spin (S = 3/2) Co(II) complexes. Building upon these efforts, the present work...

Dissociation of 2-oxopropanoic acid by low energy electrons
PublikacjaElectron attachment to molecular target can lead to a variety of negative fragment ions. We experimentally probe the main dissociative electron attachment (DEA) channels in 2-oxopropanoic acid (CH3 - CO - COOH) - an important trace component in the Earth's atmosphere. In our studies we utilise nearly mono-energetic electrons at electron energies from 0 eV up to 15 eV.

Scanning Electrone Microscope images of biochar produced from straw and wood chips
Dane BadawczeThis dataset contains scanning electron microscope images of two types of biochars derived from waste plant biomass: straw and wood chips. Imaging was performed using a scanning electron microscope, FEI Quanta FEG250. with a SE-ETD detector (secondary electron – Everhart-Thornley detector), using 20 kV accelerating voltage.

Dissociation of furan-2-carboxylic acid by low energy electrons
PublikacjaElectron attachment to molecular target can lead to a variety of negative fragment ions. We experi- mentally probe the main dissociative electron attachment channels in furan-2-carboxylic acid (C3H3O2 − COOH) - a molecular target composed of two important structural units: a furan ring and a carboxylic group. In our studies we utilise nearly mono-energetic electrons at electron energies from 0 eV up to 15 eV. Our detection setup...

Electron attachment to hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO)
PublikacjaWe probe the electron attachment in hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO), C3F6O, a gas widely used in plasma technologies. We determine the absolute electron attachment cross section using two completely different experimental approaches: (i) a crossed-beam experiment at single collision conditions (local pressures of 5 × 10−4 mbar) and (ii) a pulsed Townsend experiment at pressures of 20–100 mbar. In the latter method, the cross sections...

Interaction of 4-nitrothiophenol with low energy electrons: Implications for plasmon mediated reactions
PublikacjaThe reduction of 4-nitrothiophenol (NTP) to 4-4′-dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) on laser illuminated noble metal nanoparticles is one of the most widely studied plasmon mediated reactions. The reaction is most likely triggered by a transfer of low energy electrons from the nanoparticle to the adsorbed molecules. Besides the formation of DMAB, dissociative side reactions of NTP have also been observed. Here, we present a crossed electron-molecular...

Dissociative electron attachment to benzoic acid (C7H6O2)
PublikacjaThe dissociative electron attachment (DEA) to benzoic acid (C6H5COOH) has been studied using an experimental crossed beam setup of a quadrupole mass spectrometer and a trochoidal electron monochromator. Relative partial cross sections for the DEA to produce negative ion fragments show the main channels for dissociation. The comparison of the present results with the ultraviolet photoelectron spectrum of benzoic acid [J. Meeks,...

The Role of Electron Transfer in the Fragmentation of Phenyl and Cyclohexyl Boronic Acids
PublikacjaIn this study, novel measurements of negative ion formation in neutral potassium-neutral boronic acid collisions are reported in electron transfer experiments. The fragmentation pattern of phenylboronic acid is comprehensively investigated for a wide range of collision energies, i.e., from 10 to 1000 eV in the laboratory frame, allowing some of the most relevant dissociation channels to be probed. These studies were performed in...

Spontaneous electron emission vs dissociation in internally hot silver dimer anions
PublikacjaReferring to a recent experiment, we theoretically study the process of a two-channel decay of the diatomic silver anion (Ag2-), namely the spontaneous electron ejection giving Ag2 + e- and the dissociation leading to Ag- + Ag. The ground state potential energy curves of the silver molecules of diatomic neutral and negative ion were calculated using proper pseudo-potentials and atomic basis sets. We also estimated the non-adiabatic...

Electron scattering from tin tetrachloride (SnCl4) molecules
PublikacjaAbsolute grand-total cross section (TCS) for electron scattering from a tin tetrachloride, SnCl4, molecule was measured at electron-impact energies ranging from 0.6 to 300 eV, in the linear electron-transmission experiment. The measured TCS energy dependence shows two very pronounced enhancements peaking near 1.2 eV and around 9.5 eV, separated with a deep minimum centered close to 3 eV. The low energy structure is attributed to...

Anionic states of C6Cl6 probed in electron transfer experiments
PublikacjaThis is the first comprehensive investigation on the anionic species formed in collisions of fast neutral potassium (K) atoms with neutral hexachlorobenzene (C6Cl6) molecules in the laboratory frame range from 10 up to 100 eV. In such ion-pair formation experiments, we also report a novel K+ energy loss spectrum obtained in the forward scattering giving evidence of the most accessible electronic states. The vertical electron affinity...
