Stericallyencumberedligand(ArO) 3 SiS − , where Ar = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl, was employed for the synthesisof a dicoordinate copper(I) complex. The ligand creates a very hydrophobic environment around the metal center as indicated by the crystal structures and FT-IR spectroscopy.

Two new methylsilylsulfides are synthesized. Propeller-like chirality is described for triaryloxysilanethiol and its methyl derivative. S-methylation of the silanethiol lowers the overall symmetry of the unit cell.
